History of Bowen Technique

Founder of Bowen, Tom Bowen
Tom Bowen was born in Australia (1916 - 1982). His parents were originally from Wolverhampton in the UK. He left school at 14 years of age. After taking various labouring jobs he ended up working in a cement factory in Geelong and out of a desire to help people started treating friends and family. He worked a lot with junior football clubs in Victoria.
Tom was not formally trained or licensed in any body therapies, but self taught, apparently learning from books. He called himself an osteopath referring to his work as Soft Tissue Therapy, and had an amazing ability to be able to look at a person's posture and 'see' the cause of their pain. It is said that if he performed a move that was wrong on a patient he would receive a burning sensation so hot in his fingers that he would have to immediately run them under cold water.
Tom became famous for curing the uncurable.
Tom was a quiet man who did not communicate much. He was, in fact, quite deaf. He also had lost a leg to diabetes but this did not stop him from treating people. It is reported that at one point Tom was treating an amazing 13,000 people a year.
A truly remarkable man.
